Millimeter wave antenna technology
Abstract
One of a number of reasons for the expanded development of millimeter wave systems is related to a basic property of the antenna. It is possible to achieve a high degree of spatial resolution from antennas with modest physical size. There exist, however, problems regarding the development of suitable millimeter wave antennas. The present investigation provides an overview of millimeter wave antenna technology. The development status of millimeter wave antennas is examined, taking into account reflector designs, lens designs, array designs, and horn designs. System considerations and the characteristics of ancillary equipment are also discussed. Attention is given to multiple beam antennas, adaptive antenna processing, radome considerations, and RF components.
