The phase-conjugation method in adaptive systems for the shaping of light beams
Abstract
A phase-conjugation algorithm is developed for conditions when the principle of optical reversibility is violated. The relationship between phase-conjugation correction and gradient optimization methods is shown. Results of a numerical experiment are used to clarify the role of such factors as nonlinearity of the medium, the limits of the receive-transmit aperture, and the complex structure of the reflecting surface. The results obtained make it possible to draw some conclusions about the operation of systems which use the phase-conjugation algorithm. In particular, it is noted that if the surface of the object has a multispeckle structure, the operation of the system depends substantially on the relation of the diffraction-limited size of the spot and the distance between speckles.
