Transient convection due to the sudden change of the temperature gradient
Abstract
The transient convection in a liquid column which results from a sudden change in the temperature gradient via the thermal Marangoni effect is investigated analytically for the case of a 2D liquid bridge. The analytical solution is applied to a specific case, and numerical results are presented in graphs and tables. These findings are applicable to floating-zone manufacturing processes in a zero-gravity environment.
