Simplified linearly polarised contoured beam reflector antenna for a European coverage requirement
Abstract
An analysis is presented of the design of a linearly polarized contoured beam reflector antenna which satisfies a European coverage requirement. The design consists of a 1.1 m offset reflector antenna, fed by an array of only five rectangular feed hours, operating in a 10.7-11.7 GHz band. It is shown that this contoured 'Eurobeam' antenna can achieve a 28 dBi gain requirement, in contrast to the current ECS-1 CEPT (Conference Europeenne de Poste et Telecommunication) elliptical Eurobeam gain requirement of 25 dBi. In addition, this design would result in a less massive array and a much simplified distribution network than required by the current 23-horn feed array. Although it is found that this design is not capable of radical reconfiguration, it may be possible to achieve a degree of reconfiguration.
