Blockage effect on vortex shedding from bluff bodies
Abstract
The effects caused by wall blockage on the frequency of vortex shedding from circular cylinders and inclined flat plates were investigated experimentally in the Reynolds number range of 10,000 to 120,000. The results show the increase of Strouhal number with increasing blockage. The vortex shedding phenomena under confined flow conditions is found to be governed by a Universal Strouhal number, based on the separation velocity and the distance between the parallel separated shear layer.
