A review of physical modeling of atmospheric air flows
Abstract
As a first point, a historical account is given of the technical development of wind tunnel simulation in an attempt to highlight the determinative influences of aeronautics in this field. The recent efforts which have been done, particularly those intending to improve modelling methods are examined. Technology, know-how and their limitations, in addition to theoretical bases of similarity shall then be described. The following cases of simulation will be analyzed: (1) Airflow around circular cylinders; (2) Dynamic wind effects on structures; (3) Atmospheric boundary layer simulation by a thermal boundary layer; and (4) thermal flow simulation on a regional scale.
