Preliminary investigation of the performance of repeater technology for satellite sound broadcasting
Abstract
The repeater technology for a low and a higher surface density broadcasting satellite (50 and 250W/channel respectively) was studied. System aspects related to payload, including multiplexing, gain, orbital spectrum utilization, and channel amplification were analyzed. Traveling wave tube (TWT) solid state, and triode amplifiers were assessed. Thermal aspects of the amplifier technologies using the L-SAT platform were considered. For 250W/channel, the TWT channel version is retained. For 50W/channel, TWT with 2 channels per amplifier, and solid state channel amplifiers are suitable.
