European Spacelab payload integration
Abstract
The integration of the European complement of the scientific payload for the first Spacelab mission is discussed. The integration concept is outlined and the choice of integration site is discussed. The software development, acceptance, and checkout are recounted, and the two-phase integration implementation period is summarized, with the time schedule shown. The actual course of integration, which differed from first planning, is briefly reviewed. The lessons learned are discussed in detail, including those pertaining to integration concept, software development, experiment compatibility and checkout, supporting hardware, availability of racks, safety, and verification.
