Self organization phenomena in the plasma focus
Abstract
The structure of the final minimum energy state of the focus plasma was derived using Taylor's relaxation theory, for an axiosymmetric configuration. A system of eddies superimposed on the reversed field pinch structure is obtained. Analysis shows that the intensity and the structure of the eddies depend on the total current. The dimensions of the eddies are determined by the ratio between the compressed longitudinal field and the azimuthal field of the current. Although dissipative effects and the pressure and kinetic energies are neglected by the theory, results are confirmed by experiment.
