Results of Meteosat-F2 spacecraft charging monitors
Abstract
METEOSAT-F2, equipped with two monitors for spacecraft charging events, provided data suitable for analysis of anomalies on nearby satellites, but provided poor correlation with events on-board F2. Modifications introduced into the second METEOSAT satellite proved to be effective although the monitor data do not agree with the hypothesis for the charging mechanism leading to these modifications. Other types of environmental effects or on-board generated interference may be the cause of the remaining METEOSAT-F2 arcing anomalies. The spectrum of the instruments should be increased for future launches.
