Results from an experimental receiving array antenna with digital beamforming
Abstract
After a comparison of different methods for electronically steering phase and amplitude, it emerges that digital video beamforming, or the generation of the antenna space factor through a numerically weighted superposition of the individual antenna elements' digitized complex video outputs, is the most promising of the available methods. An experimental receiving array with 20 active elements has been constructed in order to study the feasibility of this method and the behavior of critical components.
