Heat and mass transfer in a low speed turbulent boundary layer with condensation
Abstract
In a low level exchanger, the improvement by condensation of heat transfer is a question of great interest. An experimental and theoretical study on the heat transfer rate on a horizontal flat plate located in a low speed mixed air-steam flow under saturated conditions is presented. In the boundary layer, the thermal gradient between the mixed main hot flow and the cooled wall produces vapor condensation, release of latent heat and, then, an increased heat exchange. As in the laminar boundary layer, the results obtained in the turbulent one by numerical calculations and by measurements are in good agreement; they indicate that the heat exchange is more than doubled for Delta theta = 20 C at theta (infinity) = 85 C.
