PALAPA - Past, present and future
Abstract
The PALAPA Satellite System has been in operation for over five years serving Indonesia and the ASEAN Regional Community. The success of the initial PALAPA A has led to the acquisition of two B-series satellites which are to provide 24 channels of 36 MHz bandwidth by polarization frequency reuse following launch in the first half of 1983. Changes are being made in the terrestrial segment to improve the quality of existing services, and by addition of new services. The Indonesian telecommunication network development plans call for the introduction of TDMA in some satellite transponders and integrating this capability with digital switching and terrestrial transmission links or new small earth stations colocated with switching centers.
