Insat communication system
Abstract
The Insat-1 domestic satellite system has been planned as a cost-effective multipurpose system for providing long distance telecommunications, direct TV broadcasting, to rural areas, and meteorological services, and is due to be operational in early 1982. The system will consist of two body-stabilized satellites in geostationary orbit and 34 earth stations, operating in the 6/4 GHz band for telecommunications. This paper describes the salient features of the Insat system. The domestic telecommunication requirements are presented, and the main characteristics of the spacecraft communication subsystem and earth stations are given. The transmission parameters of the Insat carriers are discussed, and the features of network operation and the control center are examined.
