Ariane performance gain with a restartable third stage
Abstract
Performance gain of Ariane with a restartable third stage for geostationary, circular, elliptical, and escape missions is considered. A third stage relight capability is only of marginal interest for geostationary missions, but highly desirable for nearly any other mission type. The SPOT mission (circular orbit) performance increase would be 12%. A restartable third stage would be most beneficial for elliptical missions.
