A new three-dimensional boundary layer calculation method
Abstract
A new 3-D boundary layer code has been developed which incorporates the best computational techniques identified during the past decade of 3-D boundary layer research. This paper describes the program for calculating compressible, laminar or turbulent steady 3-D boundary layers on a finite wing of arbitrary planform and thickness. Comparison with other codes and with experimental results by East and Hoxey is presented. In addition, detailed comparisons with experimental results, drawing from the wing boundary layer measurements of the Lockheed research program are shown. These comparisons demonstrate the impact of a non-isotropic turbulence modeling assumption on the crossflow calculation.
