Striations in the discharge of an He-Cd laser and their influence on the emission characteristics
Abstract
It is found that along with the ionization-diffusion waves - striations - that develop in the discharge of an He-Cd laser there are oscillations which correspond to the difference and sum of the striations, and are formed only when cadmium vapor is present in the discharge. The frequency regions of these oscillations are found, and their phase and group velocities are determined. It is shown that in a number of cases the influence of the dispersion properties of the medium leads to a pronounced change in the phase velocities of the sum and difference modes of the striations. In addition, the influence of plasma oscillations of different frequencies on the output emission of the laser is analyzed.
