The possibility of the breakdown of the static stability of an asymmetric body of revolution in the near-resonance regime
Abstract
An analysis is presented of the phenomenon of the static-stability loss of a body of revolution with a small asymmetry in the near-resonance rotation regime, a situation which may arise when a spacecraft enters an atmosphere. It is shown that this phenomenon can arise in the case of bodies having a nonlinear momentum characteristic.
