Nonlinear optics and spectroscopy
Abstract
It is shown that the availability of tunable dye lasers has made detailed, nonlinear spectroscopic studies possible over the entire visible region of the spectrum and nonlinear techniques have, in turn, extended the range of tunable coherent radiation. Harmonic generation, parametric down conversion and stimulated Raman scattering have extended the tunable coherent radiation range from the vacuum UV to the far-IR. When the domain of time-resolved measurement is extended to femtoseconds, new possibilities for experimental study will open in material science and chemical kinetics.
