ERBS . . . has nothing to do with cooking
Abstract
The NASA Earth Radiation Budget Satellite (ERBS) is described in terms of its mission, instrumentation, Shuttle launch, and communications equipment. The Shuttle will place the spacecraft in a 250-300 km orbit, from which an onboard propulsion system will carry it to a 600 km orbit. Weighing 1688 lb, ERBS is part of the Earth Radiation Budget Experiment which includes the Nimbus, two Tiros-N, and the Sage II satellites for measuring the incident solar flux, the reflected solar flux, and the emitted longwave flux. The C3 ground link to ERBS will be effected by the Tracking and Data Relay Satellite System for control through White Sands, NM, with data being routed to Langley Research Center for analysis.
