HF channel-simulator measurements on the KY-879/P FSK Burst-Communication Modem - Set 2
Abstract
A second set of ten HF ionospheric channel-simulator experiments has been performed on the KY-879/P, binary-FSK, burst-communication modem to determine the performance improvements provided by six design changes in the modem and to determine if the modified modem meets five performance specifications of the U.S. Army. In each experiment, the probability of a missed message, the probability of a post-correction coding-block error, and the probability of a post-correction character error were measured as functions of a channel modem parameter to determine the modem performances with respect to various additive, multiplicative, and nonlinear signal distortions imposed by the HF channels and the modem itself.
