Commercial communication satellites in the next 20 years
Abstract
Demand for global satellite systems such as INTELSAT, export systems such as ARABSAT, and satellites for countries with a well developed aerospace industry is predicted. Problems concerning frequency allocation and geostationary orbit overcrowding are reviewed. The merits of small satellites versus large space platforms are discussed. Up to 475 satellites and 5 platforms are expected to be launched by the year 2000, excluding Soviet spacecraft.
