LANDSAT-D prelaunch mission operation report
Abstract
The next generation space system to satisfy continuing requirements for timely, accurate, and reliable data on Earth resources, the LANDSAT D satellite is to be placed into sun-synchronous orbit by a Delta 3920 launch vehicle. With a 16 day repeat cycle, the entire Earth, except for an area around the poles, can be imaged. In addition to the multispectral band scanner, this satellite carries a thematic mapper instrument which produces data in seven spectral bands with significantly improved spectral, spatial, and radiometric resolution. Mission objectives, the flight mode sequence of events, and satellite and launch vehicle configurations are described.
