Response of a flat plate turbulent boundary layer to a pulsation of the external flow
Abstract
Two models for calculating the response of a turbulent boundary layer on a flat plate with an oscillating external velocity are developed and tested experimentally. The reduced frequency parameter is varied continuously in the range 0.4-18.0. As the Strouhal number increases, a periodically varying response of the boundary layer is observed. Measurements of the u-component of the turbulent energy and of the flatness factor show an upstream history effect.
