Optimality and relative effectiveness of certain invariant criteria in spectrum space
Abstract
A locally most powerful detection rule which is invariant to noise level is obtained for the detection of determinate signals in noise of unknown intensity in the case when the noise is governed by a chi-square distribution with r degrees of freedom. The asymptotic relative effectiveness is calculated and used to compare the optimal rule with empirical rules based on contrast-group statistics. It is shown that all the rules considered become statistically equivalent as the number of degrees of freedom increases.
