Dependence of plasma line enhancement on HF pulse length and ionosphere preconditioning
Abstract
Recent ionospheric heating experiments at Arecibo demonstrate that the rapid growth of electrostatic plasma waves exhibits a remarkable dependence on HF pulse length and CW preconditioning. The effects are traceable to the generation of short-scale distortions in the density profile near the plasma resonance.
