Third-harmonic generation in a semiconductor with negative differential resistance
Abstract
The conversion of amplitude fluctuations of the input pump signal into fluctuations of the generated harmonic is examined using the example of third-harmonic generation in a semiconductor with negative differential resistance. The averaging method is used to obtain a system of equations for the amplitudes and spectral densities of the amplitude fluctuations of interacting waves. It is shown that distributed frequency multipliers (for the millimeter and submillimeter ranges) based on semiconductors with negative differential resistance can have the property of high multiplication efficiency (exceeding 100%) and simultaneously suppress fluctuations of input-signal amplitude.
