Dilution refrigerator for a two-litre polarized target
Abstract
A large dilution refrigerator has been designed and constructed for cooling a polarized proton target of two litre volume. The main features of the refrigerator are: maximum cooling power 1.3 W at 0.55 K with 0.23 mol/s 3 He circulation, base temperature below 50 mK, and direct horizontal access to the mixing chamber, which has a microwave blockage permitting separation of opposite polarized halves of the target.
