On calculation accuracy in gas flow problems with shock type discontinuities
Abstract
The computational error associated with stepwise discontinuity in shock-fitting difference schemes may vary depending on the scheme by several orders of magnitude. It is useful to plot not the functions themselves but logarithms of absolute difference between computed and exact values. This paper provides examples for a stationary shock profile with given shock parameters, isoentropic gas flow at k = 3, and shock computations of isoentropic gas flow at k = 3 made by two hybrid schemes. In the stationary stepwise shock profile generated by such schemes, the errors differ essentially only near the discontinuity.
