The concept and implementation of antenna arrays with digital control of the radiation pattern
Abstract
It is shown that digital antenna signal processing permits high flexibility in forming and controlling the radiation patterns, resulting in considerable improvements in the radar system's resistance to interference. Requirements for antenna control in radar receiving systems are reviewed, and the general concept and function of the digital beam forming array is presented with a discussion of typical characteristics such as accuracy, technical effort, and range of application. Emphasis is on the possibility of integrating digital antenna signal processing into general radar signal processing, and an experimental model with digital pattern formation is constructed with examples of pattern measurements including a Chebyshev illustration.
