Investigation on the flow behind a circular cylinder with a wake splitter plate. I - Classification of flow patterns
Abstract
The flow characteristics around a circular-section cylinder with a wake splitter plate, in the Reynolds number range of 1300-5800, are investigated experimentally with varying gaps between the cylinder and the plate. A plate length/cylinder diameter ratio value of 1.3 is found to divide two distinctly different regions of flow behavior. It is also determined that, while the Strouhal number of bluff bodies increases as the drag coefficient decreases, the Strouhal value of the cylinder with wake splitter plate varies in proportion to that of the drag coefficient.
