Dielectric and conductor losses in coplanar waveguides
Abstract
The present investigation is concerned with the analysis of the conductor and dielectric losses of a coplanar waveguide, taking into account also the experimental verification of the obtained results. The Laplace equation is solved on a computer by means of the method of successive overrelaxation. Symmetry considerations are employed to reduce computation time and memory requirements. The attenuation constant with respect to the dielectric losses is found to be mainly dependent on the substrate thickness. The attenuation constant regarding the conductor loss depends on the relative dielectric constant of the substrate. The difference between the theoretical and experimental values is less than 25 percent for the conductor loss and less than 6 percent for the dielectric loss.
