Bandpass signal sampling and coherent detection
Abstract
A method is presented whereby a single A/D converter operating in conjunction with appropriate processing produces the in-phase and quadrature components of a narrow band signal for each sample point. An algorithm based on the sampling theorem has been tested in software using CW and pulsed waveforms. A detector using a self-truncating interpolation algorithm produces peak phase errors of less than 0.2 deg, which is an order of magnitude better than the accuracy of conventional baseband detectors.
