The 'Orbita-RV' common access equipment
Abstract
The general design and the operation of the Orbita-RV system intended for the transmission of sound broadcast programs and printed text (newspapers) are briefly described. The Orbita-RV system is assigned to one of the channel groups of the Horizont multichannel satellite repeater and operates in conjunction with a telephone system using time division multistation access. Each of the systems uses half of the carrying capacity of the channel group of the satellite. The analog signals are converted to digital form in individual converters, after which the individual digital signals are combined in standard digital bit streams at a rate of 2.048 Megabits/sec. A brief description of the principal functional units of the common access equipment is given.
