Beam scanning in the offset Gregorian antenna
Abstract
Analytic solutions are presented for the optimum feed locus for beam scanning in the offset Gregorian antenna. A transmit mode analysis is used to find the loci of constant beam direction and the locus of the optimum feed position, the intersection of which is the optimum feed position for a specified beam direction. It is shown that, within the accuracy of the second terms of approximation, the optimum feed position locus may be represented as an ellipsoidal surface. The optimality of the analytical results has been confirmed by computer analysis of beam scanning for several antenna configurations. The results may be applied to the design of multibeam and shaped-beam antenna systems.
