Digital demodulation of frequency-modulated signals
Abstract
A concept of a purely digital demodulator for frequency-modulated signals in commercial VHF bands is presented. Nonrecursive systems are used to filter the chosen channels out of the incoming signal. These have the advantage of linear phase, so that phase distortions of frequency-modulated signals are completely eliminated. For demodulation the received signal is transformed into the baseband, and a special digital demodulation algorithm leads to a low-frequency information signal. Aspects of realization are discussed when individual system components are considered, and a series of simulation results are presented.
