Elaboration of daily programs and operational control of the ARCAD-3 scientific payload aboard the AUREOL-3 satellite
Abstract
The in-flight operational control of the Franco-Soviet scientific payload ARCAD-3, and the network of ground stations set up for the AUREOL-3 mission are described. Using the large telemetry and command capabilities of this satellite, scientific programs were planned and carried out using the control centers of the CNES, Toulouse, and the IKI, Moscow. All of the scientific experiments may be commanded and reconfigured from the ground, using command tables defined by a ground based calculator, and based on given scientific objectives. The on-board calculator CN2B decodes these commands. A network of 10 stations is used to acquire the telemetry, in real-time, from the regions of the polar cap, the auroral oval, mid- and equatorial latitudes. A large choice of operating modes is possible using the on-board telemetry storage mode. A transmission line with a calculator at each end was installed between the centers at Toulouse, France, and Moscow, USSR, to exchange operational messages and scientific data.
