Numerical analysis of surface wave propagation using finite and infinite elements
Abstract
In this paper a modified version of the finite element method is formulated in complex form to analyze the surface wave propagation along lossy dielectric open guiding structures. The method makes use of finite and infinite elements and of suitable approximating functions, so allowing a high precision in the evaluation of the fields, without requiring an exceedingly large number of nodal points. Some results relative to circular, elliptical-tube and rectangular guides are presented for illustrating the capability of the method.
