Time of flight analysis of charge exchange neutral particles from the TORTUR 2 plasma
Abstract
A disk chopper for time of flight analysis of fast neutrons was constructed in order to determine ion energy spectra at lower energies than can be obtained by conventional electromagnetic analyzers. The detection system is described and the measurements are analyzed. The influence of reflections of neutrals at the liner wall was important in calculations of the neutral density profile at the plasma edge. The neutral energy spectrum in the lower energy range was strongly enhanced by this effect. High energy ranges were unaffected by reflection effects. Asymptotic slopes can be used for central ion temperature determination.
