Considerations in the design of optimal multilook processors for image quality
Abstract
The theory of speckle statistics is reviewed and predictions are tested with SEASAT SAR radar imagery. Agreement is good for visually uniform, distributed targets, but very poor for nonuniform areas. A method which uses measurements of the cross correlation coefficient between looks, in combination with the speckle model, to optimize the number and position of looks in any given processing task is presented.
