Ionospheric predictions for HF radio systems: The future
Abstract
Current prediction procedures are reviewed briefly and the uses for which they are needed are considered. Examples are presented of requirements for long term, short term, and storm propagation predictions. Desirable and likely future improvements in knowlege of ionospheric morphology leading to more accurate predictions are discussed. Specific suggestions are made for extended prediction procedures to aid optimization of communication systems. These involve estimates of additional parameters and improved representations of other factors. In particular, predictions of background interference, signal dispersion and error rates are proposed.
