Attenuation statistics obtained with OTS
Abstract
Attenuation results in the form of single strong events and cumulative values are presented. In the 14 GHz uplink experiment 10 Earth stations transmitted two circularly polarized beacons each. One beacon, polarized in the same sense at the satellite receiving antenna, is used to measure attenuation. The other one transmits in the orthogonal polarization at a frequency 5 KHz higher than the corresponding beacon and is used to measure cross polarization. Single events considered include relationships between downlink beacon attenuation and radiometric attenuation, and attenuation between pairs of beacons. Large variations in results indicate that data from a longer timespan must be collected if useful conclusions are to be drawn.
