The status of norms for numerical communication systems
Abstract
The Italian, European and international norms referring to numerical communication systems are reviewed. The norms referring to the characteristics of analog to digital conversion, the quality level, the multiplexing devices and the numerical line systems are examined. The trends in norm development are discussed, in particular those referred to wave guides and optical fibers and those considering multiplexing levels higher than four.
