Microcomputer-based improvements to the AFSATCOM System
Abstract
A description is presented of a breadboard microcomputer system based on a single board computer. The system fulfills demonstration requirements of an improved polling capability for various satellite system users. The demonstration system illustrates the flexibility and power of microprocessor-based hardware and software implementations and provides real-time simulation capabilities for studying system performance improvements for Air Force Satellite Communications (AFSATCOM) System ultrahigh frequency (UHF) communications. It was found that many new polling capabilities could be demonstrated easily and economically with currently available microcomputer techniques without the need to modify any existing AFSATCOM hardware or software.
