Broadcasting satellites and the system of the United States Satellite Broadcasting Company
Abstract
A summary is presented of the plans of the USSB Company to provide direct broadcasting satellite service for the US. This system is designed to provide free, advertiser-sponsored TV programs to the entire US, and moderately-priced home receiving installations will be able to receive the three channels offered in each US time zone. The programs will be produced by USSB, by independent producers, and by independent TV stations that are members of the system. These stations will be able to receive the transmissions and retransmit them in their viewing areas. A detailed table is also presented which lists the system specifications for nine proposals filed with the FCC, included that of the USSB, for developing a direct broadcast satellite system.
