Dynamic performance evaluation of a frequency tracking filter
Abstract
Phase-locked loops occasionally exhibit prolonged phase transients and are, therefore, not suitable for carrier recovery applications in time-division multiple access systems. Insteady designers have, in most cases, used a high Q, single-tuned filter in combination with an automatic frequency control (AFC) loop. An analytical solution for the acquisition behaviour of such a system is presented, and its equivalence to an FMFB demodulator is discussed in the context of noise performance.
