A microprocessor and optoelectronics based packet switch for satellite communications
Abstract
A packet-switch design is proposed in which the electronic components except the microprocessor are replaced by components based on optoelectronic devices (i.e., LEDs, photodetectors, crossover optical waveguide switches, optical shift registers, multiplexers, and optical fibers). This packet switch performs the functions of reception, storage, switching, processing, error control, routing, and retransmission of data packets.
