The bifurcations of the Taylor problem
Abstract
The first two bifurcations of the Taylor problem are analyzed with the help of the central manifold, which reduces the originally infinitedimensional problem to a finite number of critical dimensions, and also has the advantage of providing a vector field that contains all the information concerning the local dynamic behavior of the system. Purely technical difficulties are eliminated by solving a model problem that contains all the necessary components of the Taylor problem.
