The bifurcations of the Taylor problem
Abstract
The first two bifurcations of the Taylor problem are analyzed with the help of the central manifold, which reduces the originally infinite-dimensional problem to a finite number of critical dimensions, and also has the advantage of providing a vector field that contains all the information concerning the local dynamic behavior of the system. Purely technical difficulties are eliminated by solving a model problem that contains all the necessary components of the Taylor problem.
