A second generation public mobile radio system
Abstract
As the Italian mobile radio system is approaching saturation, solutions for an improved larger capacity system are presented. The structure of mobile radiocommunications in other developed countries is discussed. The subdivision of the territory into call areas, valid for 1995 previsions, is detailed. The selected frequency bands are 450 and 460 MHz, each with 200 channels of 25 KHz bandwidth, of which four are reserved for call signals. The system can provide service to 8000 users in each area, with a traffic density of 0.028 Erlang.
