Studies on the starting flow and inlet flow in a channel and a pipe
Abstract
A starting flow and inlet flow in a channel and in a pipe with finite length are considered. The full Navier-Stokes equations are solved by the so-called SMAC (Simplified Marker and Cell) method, partially modified by the authors, without any approximation such as the boundary layer approximation. The calculated results illustrate how the flow, which is suddenly set in motion with the uniform velocity profile imposed initially at the inlet section, turns to the steady flow. Also, the overshooting of the velocity is found to appear in the entrance region.
